BiH Prosecutor Abandons Mehmedovic-Tesanj Case, SIPA Objects – SRNA

The Prosecutor’s office of BiH decided this week to turn over the investigation of the so-called Tesanj case to the Zenica-Doboj Canton’s prosecutor. The case involves the discovery last year of a massive cache of illegal arms and ordnance. Goran Zubac, the director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), demanded that the BiH prosecutor reconsider the decision, saying that it is “inconceivable” that such a case should not be investigated at the highest levels.

SIPA’s initial investigation and report to the BiH prosecutor implicated Semsudin Mehmedovic, an MP from the SDA and wartime police commander of Tesanj, in the matter. Glas Srpske, quoting anonymous security sources, reported that Mr. Mehmedovic used his political connections to have the case transferred to the cantonal prosecutor, because Mr. Mehmedovic and his party have considerable power in the area and do not see local prosecution as a threat.
