Two former High Representatives today reacted to Christian Schmidt’s announcement of his resignation by reiterating their calls for the closure of the Office of the High Representative (OHR).
Carl Bildt, who served as the first High Representative in BiH, wrote today on the social media site X, “OHR has after 30 years outlived its usefulness. A new initiative is called for.”
Michael Martens of the leading German Daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung wrote on X today, “Former High Representative Wolfgang Petritch claims: The remaining conditions for OHR´s closure could be completed as part of Bosnia’s EU accession talks. The OHR, he says, is not needed for that. The closure of the OHR has been stated as a goal for years. Now it would finally be possible, Petritsch says: ‘One could close the OHR and transfer the outstanding tasks – such as settling the question of state property – as conditions into the individual negotiating chapters of Bosnia’s EU accession process.’”
