Bosnian Taxpayers Funding Spread of Hardline Salafi Message – BIRN

According to an investigation by the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), dozens of organizations, some publicly funded, are promoting the hardline Salafi branch of Sunni Islam in BiH.

BIRN has identified 41 associations and organisations involved in promoting the movement, mainly registered as youth associations, book clubs or associations promoting ‘universal values’.

Their primary purpose is to organise lectures by Salafi preachers, or Da’is, and Da’wah activities, or ‘calling to Islam’, while some are registered as providing humanitarian support.

Three non-governmental organisations involved in organising Da’i lectures have received a total of KM 19,000, or some 9,500 euros, from state or local budgets in the past four years, BIRN has found.
