Croatian NGOs Honor Victims of Operation Storm – B92

A number of civil society organizations based in Croatia gathered in Zagreb on Monday to “pay respect to the victims” of Operation Storm, the 1995 offensive waged by Croatian forces that led to the deaths of hundreds of civilians and the displacement of thousands of Serbs and others. Croatia is preparing for state celebrations of the operation’s anniversary this month.

Organizers said that 1,853 persons are listed as either killed or missing as a consequence of Croatia’s military and police operation launched 20 years ago – “a majority being of Serb nationality.”

“We see that with the military parade tomorrow the state seems to be preparing for a new war, without ending the previous one. It did not take the responsibility, it did not investigate the crimes, it did not ascertain the facts. Without that, the war continues perpetually,” said Nela Pamukovic from the enter for Women Victims of War.
