HDZ Balances Conflicting Alliances – BalkanInsight

The Federation House of Representatives convened this week, with the majority held by a coalition made up of the SDA, HDZ, and Democratic Front. The coalition at the Federation level also includes members of the Alliance for Changes, which currently makes up the opposition bloc within Republika Srpska.

While caucusing with the Serb opposition in the Federation, HDZ remains committed to a partnership with the SNSD in the RS and at the BiH level, according to HDZ chief Dragan Covic. Mr. Covic met with SNSD head and RS president Milorad Dodik on Tuesday.

The two party chiefs confirmed their political partnership despite the fact that the Bosniak parties in the Federation entity coalition, to which HDZ belongs, chose not to work with Dodik’s SNSD but instead signed an agreement of cooperation with the Republika Srpska opposition bloc, the Alliance for Changes.

Covic said that the HDZ will be in government on all levels in the country….But he also said that because Dodik’s SNSD won the most votes of all Serb parties nationwide, it should be part of the national government.

RS President Dodik has said that his party might decide not to participate in the BiH government.
