SDP and SDA end coalition; major realignment underway in FBiH

In the wake of disagreements over the 2012 state budget, the coalition between the SDP and SDA has collapsed. SDP head Zlatko Lagumdzija has formally asked Council of Ministers Chairman Bevanda to remove SDA ministers and deputy ministers from the Council; the SDA is expected to retaliate with a similar request.

Lagumdzija’s SDP is pursuing the removal of SDA officials from all levels of government; according to BalkanInsight, “Lagumdzija said the SDP had already dismissed SDA ministers in four [Federation] cantons where they ruled in coalition: Tuzla, Zenica-Doboj, Una-Sana and the Canton of Sarajevo.”

The SDP has also signed a new agreement on cooperation with the SBB, a Bosniak opposition party that now expects to be represented in the state government, once SDA ministers are removed.
