EU Releases Funding for Judiciary – EU

The EU mission in BiH has released a new tranche of funding for war crimes prosecution today. The funding had been delayed because of BiH leaders’ incomplete implementation of the war crimes strategy. According to EU Special Representative Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, the EU will provide roughly €15 million over the next five years.

The overall target of the EU support is to reduce the number of war crimes cases with a known suspect(s) by at least 50% by the end of 2018. The first tranche was released in December 2013. In addition to the budget support, the EU has also assisted BiH authorities in developing technical capacities that are linked to war crimes investigations and adjudication.
