Sorensen Says Days of Foreign Intervention are Over – EU

EU Special Representative Peter Sorensen appeared on a local television talk-show on Thursday, on which he responded to questions about the role of the international community in BiH, and the country’s future vis-a-vis the European Union. Ambassador Sorensen acknowledged that BiH is progressing less quickly than other Balkan states, but said that the country’s future as an EU member is clear. Ambassador Sorensen also ruled out any direct intervention in BiH affairs.

Asked to comment on the possibility of EU intervention, when it comes to constitutional changes in BiH, Sorensen said that days of international intervention are gone. “That will not happen again. As for the EU perspective, we will of course state our views (…) I also believe that this is one of the changes that have been made in the past three years. We are trying to build a partnership with a potential and future member state (of the EU). Everything that we do is based on the principle of partnership and that is what we did in case of economic reforms, during the floods, and so forth,” underlined Sorensen.
